Trade deficit with EU countries at JD1.3bln in 7 months
Amman, Oct. 5 (Petra) -- Jordan's trade balance deficit with the European Union (EU) countries totaled JD1.345 billion in the first seven months of 2022, compared to JD1.395 billion in the same reporting period of 2021.
According to foreign trade data issued by the Department of Statistics on Wednesday, national exports to the bloc soared in 2022's January-July period by 122.5 percent to JD217 million, against 97 million in 2021.
Imports from EU state members edged up by 4.7 percent by the end of last July, reaching JD1.562 billion, against 1.492 billion recorded in last year's same period.
Figures showed that Belgium and Romania were the main destinations of Jordanian exports to EU countries with JD35 million, while Germany was the Kingdom's top European supplier with JD326 million.
The Jordan-Europe Business Association (JEBA) President Ali Murad told Petra that the partnership agreement with the EU contributed to enhancing trade exchange, adding that there is an increased demand for Jordanian fertilizers, potash, phosphate, and chemical industries.
