Brief: Jordan Europe Business Association (JEBA) organized a power Breakfast with Dr. Yousef Al Shawarbeh / Mayor of Amman with the attendance of a number of European Ambassadors and Economic Attaches in Jordan, representatives of Official institutions and private sectors institutions from various economic and industrial sectors, as well as civil societies.


Jordan Europe Business Association (JEBA) organized a power Breakfast with Dr. Yousef Al Shawarbeh / Mayor of Amman with the attendance of a number of European Ambassadors and Economic Attaches in Jordan, representatives of Official institutions and private sectors institutions from various economic and industrial sectors, as well as civil societies.

 

Dr. Shawarbeh assured that the year 2020, will be the year of investment by offering dozens of projects in partnership with the private sector away from the sale of assets.

“the Greater Municipality of Amman has a great conviction of very large assets existence whether land or real estate and must be invested properly away from the paths of bureaucratic which discourages investment, pointing out that the Municipality established an investment arm "Amman Vision Investment Company" to prepare studies of economic feasibility for many projects To put forward as investment opportunities” Mayor Said

 

He also said that the Municipality went to invest due to the challenges in its budget, in order to enhance its financial revenues away from fees and taxes through activating and investing its assets, stressing the existence of real opportunities that will reflect on the revenues, contribute to Providing jobs and promoting development gains.

He pointed out that the investment directions of municipality took into account the needs of the market by 80%, while there will be 20% of projects for covering the needs of the city away from profit and loss.

 

He stressed that the Municipality has worked to facilitate and simplify a lot of procedures for investors, encourage and motivate them through the amendment of the building system, reduce the returns fees and facilitate decision-making, pointing to the existence of a new law of professions licenses which is expected to be presented to the next parliamentary period, in addition to municipality law and Other legislations which have been developed.

 

He mentioned that the Municipality of Amman is working to restore the sidewalk in various locations of the capital.

He focused that the challenges facing the work strategy of municipality are traffic congestion, and the delay of transactions for citizens or investors, in addition to the existence of legislation which needs to be redrafted in accordance with the modernity of the society and its future requirements.

 

The municipality has adopted a three-year plan that started last year till 2020, except the period associated with the operation of the express bus, which will be in the second half of 2021.

 

Dr. Al-Shawarbeh said that the municipality has set several axes for starting to address the traffic congestion, firstly, implementing infrastructure operations for express bus which will be terminated at the end of 2020 .

 

He also referred to the electronic transformation system implemented by the municipality  since the beginning of 2019 in order to simplify procedures and speed in making decision and to promote impartiality, integrity and transparency.

 

Eng. Jamal Badran / JEBA President said that JEBA's board of directors is keen to execute many projects and initiatives during the coming period to serve the national economy, promote investment and promote Jordanian exports to European markets.

 

He also praised the efforts and tangible achievements made by the Municipality in the context of improving the services in Amman and highlighting it as a developed and sustainable city.

 

He mentioned that JEBA will hold open meetings between its members and economic attaches of Bulgarian embassy and Dutch embassy in order to discuss opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation and provide JEBA members with business and investment opportunities in these countries, in addition to reviewing the difficulties and challenges facing them in dealing with their counterparts.

 

He added that JEBA will organize a Jordanian economic delegation to the Republics of Slovenia and Croatia next month in order to strengthen joint trade and investment between Jordanian businessmen and their counterparts in the European Union.
